West Hartford FIRST is a group of West Hartford residents who believe that responsible investment is the key to the continued strength of our town. We provide factual information on West Hartford services and advocate for responsible spending in support of those services.
2010-2011 Budget Facts
- Please spread the word to vote YES and that:
- It costs taxpayers $40,000 to hold a referendum.
- The town budget passed with bi-partisan support – all the Republicans voted for it.
- All of the Town Council members have asked for no referendum.
- It is a modest increase of 2.24%.
- Many cuts and sacrifices were made:
- Cut 23.7 school positions and 5 town government positions,
- Increased revenue through new or higher fees,
- Accounted for the lag in police hiring,
- Cut back on traffic system projects,
- Reduced the number of school buses,
- Shortened the school year by 1 day, and others…
- In the last two years, we have had elementary classrooms with 28 kids, lost some of the world language program, reduced textbook and supply budgets, lost vacuum leaf collection,…
